The Physical Activity Guidelines for Australians recommends that 60 minutes per day of moderate and vigorous activity assists 5-12 year old children gain a health benefit and incorporate incidental physical activity into their daily life. The Active Kids Challenge, promoted by the Physical Activity Foundation, is designed to promote physical activity sees primary schools (government and non-government) register for a 10 week program in Term 3 of each school year. Through their participation in the Challenge, schools aim to get as many students as possible to be physically active for 60 minutes a day. Last year 69 schools registered with a total of over 20, 000 children participating.
KidFit Leaders provides you with an active and whole-of-school approach to meet the Active Kids Challenge for your whole school. Conducted in a number of schools in the last six months, KidFit Leaders ensures that Year 5 and 6 students are proficient in developing age appropriate activities across the whole school population. KidFit Leaders also provides an excellent base for Year 5 and 6 students to develop leadership skills, self confidence and a sound knowledge of fitness principles.
KidFit Leaders represents an excellent way to involve the whole school in the Active Kids Challenge in fun and exciting ways.
Essentially, KidFit Leaders (Year 5 and 6 students) would be trained to coordinate the conduct of fun physical activities for younger students. This enables your KidFit Leaders to design and lead fun physical activities for their school under supervision of the teachers. In this way KidFit Leaders stimulates and engages your school in achieving the Active Kids Challenge.
KidFit Leaders operates as a form of program delivery.
KidFit Leaders is a two hour leadership development and physical activity session specifically designed for Year 5 and 6 students. This Program recognises the importance of peer support amongst students and equips senior students with the skills and resources to create and lead younger children in fun, physical activities.
Year 5 and 6 students are introduced to the F.U.N philosophy of conducting fitness:

The whole school benefits from access to qualified and experienced fitness professionals with considerable expertise in delivering programs to schools and school children. The primary benefit is the capacity of the school using KidFit Leaders to take ownership in active and engaging ways to fulfill the Active Kids Challenge.
Each senior student is provided with a comprehensive workbook which includes demonstrations, reflective activities and plenty of games to bring to life the concept of developing fitness through fun.

The investment for your KidFit Leaders is $20 per student.
This fee includes the provision of all necessary equipment and instruction to run the program. This equipment is safe and age appropriate and includes balls, hoops, pool noodles and soft frisbees.
Fit Habitz is a Canberra based business that specialises in delivering fun and fitness to preschool and school aged children. Since inception in 2005, Fit Habitz has provided programs to thousands of ACT school children. All instructors are registered with Fitness ACT. The principal of Fit Habitz is Jane Zeller. Jane was awarded the 2008 ACT Fitness Professional of the Year and with two young children is committed to creating fun and fitness programs for preschool and primary school age children. Jane and all the team at Fit Habitz are registered fitness trainers with Fitness Australia.
